PIPE DREAMS: An Album Essay on SUPPLY

SUPPLY is, by no means, an album that is direct, but it's as direct as they get. It says many different things, but over and over and over.

For me, I wanted SUPPLY to have two goals: One of them was to have many turns towards a New Age sound and the second was to be completely experimental. My thought process, with a bit of tinkering around, showed how much not having limitations expands the horizons of the overall resulting sound. The resulting sound is quite futuristic, somewhat stark and uninviting, but I hope one dares to unravel SUPPLY to find it's more glorified, harmonious parts.

I didn't also want an emphasis on dance music: i know, this may upset some, but i didn't want there to be a Remnants 2. SUPPLY would become a character all on it's own, different from the last record. I wasn't so focused towards making a dancefloor-ready song. Remnants drew on a lot of different influences, whereas SUPPLY hasn't. I felt as though the ideals behind SUPPLY could stand on their own without having to maintain a familiar sound.

The larger philosophy attached to SUPPLY is the idea of carrying a large idea in a small space, using small technology (like the pipes on the cover). The CD is the medium used to transport this information, this Idea or larger picture. It's about carrying the atmospheric, the grandiose using small measures. In my mind, it's also a play on one's beliefs, where a substance (the music) is given without having any direct meaning, with it's most neutrality, leaving the listener to either give it a meaning or to discard it.

The bottom line is that SUPPLY is a tool to me, a piece of art, over being a collection of dance singles. I hope that it becomes something to you, the listener, as well.
